Top Philanthropic Donors: Pierre and Pam Omidyar
The Omidyar Group represents the philanthropic, personal and professional interests of Pierre and Pam Omidyar. The Omidyars’ work and activities are wide-ranging, but united by a common set of values, a deeply rooted belief in humanity, the conviction that every person should be treated with respect and dignity, and a vision for positive change powered by the individual.
• Progress, not perfection • Change, not certainty • Impact, not idealism
Pierre Morad Omidyar was born June 21, 1967 is a French-born Iranian American entrepreneur and philanthropist, who is the founder and chairman of the eBay auction site. Omidyar and his wife Pam are well-known philanthropists who founded Omidyar Network in 2004 in order to expand their efforts beyond non-profits to include for-profits and public policy.
Omidyar was 28 when he sat down over a long holiday weekend to write the original computer code for what eventually became an internet superbrand, the auction site eBay. The site was launched on Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 1995, as "Auction Web"; it was hosted on a site Omidyar had created for information on the ebola virus. The word 'eBay' was made up on the fly by Omidyar when he was told that his first choice for his web site, 'echobay,' had already been registered. Not wanting to make a second trip to Sacramento, he came up with 'eBay.' The frequently repeated story that eBay was founded to help Omidyar's fiancée trade Pez candy dispensers was fabricated by a public relations manager in 1997 to interest the media. This was revealed in Adam Cohen's 2002 book and confirmed by eBay. Auction Web was later renamed "eBay". The service was free at first, but started charging in order to cover internet service provider costs.
Jeffrey Skoll joined the company in 1996. In March 1998, Meg Whitman was brought in as President and CEO and continued to run the company until January 2008 when she announced her retirement. In September 1998, eBay launched a successful public offering, making both Omidyar and Skoll billionaires. As of July 2008, Omidyar's 178 million eBay shares were worth around $4.45 billion. Omidyar is also an investor of Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach, California.
Omidyar Network is a philanthropic investment firm dedicated to harnessing the power of markets to create opportunity for people to improve their lives. Established in 2004 by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam, the organization invests in and helps scale innovative organizations to catalyze economic, social, and political change. To date, Omidyar Network has committed more than $270 million to for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations that foster economic advancement and encourage individual participation across multiple investment areas, including microfinance, property rights, government transparency, and social media.
Let Sunset Coupons help you with your fundraising somewhat smaller fundraising projects for your school group, church, charity, team or non-profit. To finds out more about Sunset Coupons please call 800-627-6340.

Begging Doesn’t Work!
Just being nice and asking for donations for your school’s group isn’t very effective. People who are new to fundraising find that out very fast. You start out full of enthusiasm. You know how great your program is and how much the children benefit from it. You sure if you just tell people of your need they will be glad for the opportunity to help and donate a fair amount.
Well, you soon find that reality is very different. Most who do promise never seem to get around to making that promised donation.
This seems to be related to a story about a Judge that was elected to the bench in a small town. During a get together following the election he was asked to comment on the light voter turn out. His comments went something like this, “ I would like to thank the 427 people who promised to vote for me as well as the 310 people who claimed they did vote for me. But especially I want to thanks the 47 people who actually did cast a vote and of course I can’t forget to mention the 24 who did vote for me.”
Many people make promises to donate but much fewer actually do it. Things come up, people forget and there are many pressures on family budgets these days.
Also the “what’s in it for me” attitude can be part of the problem as well. That is why the Sunset Coupon program works so well. The offer you make to the buyer is very simple “a trade.” They are giving you $10 dollars and besides feeling good for helping your group out they get $400 dollars in value for food and entertainment they will really use.
It doesn’t take long for your group to raise the funds you need this year. People are always looking for a bargain. Let Sunset Coupons turn begging into a bargains.
If, on the other hand you are looking for a high dollar return, simple and easy fundraiser call Sunset Coupons at 800-627-6340 and see how we can help your group reach its goals, time after time and year after year.

New Phoenix Fundraising Tips
New Fundraising Ideas gives causes and nonprofits new fund raising strategies that work in the today’s changing economy. Social media, online donations, business backed fundraising coupons are just some of the new challenges.
Are you always looking for new fundraiser ideas? The Sunset Coupons fundraising ideas blog provides all the new and rewarding additions to your search for ideas and solutions. Look no further! Embarrassment Cards:
This is such a simple fundraiser that should also be loads of fun. You can add this idea to any assemblage activity your group is doing.
Write up a whole lot of funny or embarrassing things on different cards, like a chicken dance for example, that people can do. Keeping your ideas fun to do is the real “art” to this event. Then go around to people asking them to pick a card.
Once they've read the embarrassing command, you give them the choice to either donate an (specific) amount to your cause, or to do the embarrassing command on the card!
You should get a mixture of reactions. Some people will donate. And some people will do what the card commands them just for the fun of it. Then you'll get people who will do the command to have some fun, but who will also then donate the requested amount.
Of course you will always have the party poopers who won't want to participate. Forget about them and go to the next person!
Be creative with this and maybe take a video camera with you to video people's reactions and embarrassing moves etc. You can then sell that video to people for a Dollar!
If, on the other hand you are looking for a high value and easy fundraiser call Sunset Coupons at 800-627-6340 and see how we can help your group reach its goals, time after time and year after year.

Len Blavatnik born June 14, 1957 in Moscow, Russia is a businessman, currently living in London, with a home on Kensington Palace Gardens. He has made his fortune through diversified investments, through Access Industries, in Russia, Europe, North and South America.
Born in the Soviet Union, he attended University in Moscow. He emigrated with his Jewish family from Russia to the U.S. in 1978, and received a masters in computer science from Columbia University and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in 1989. In the West, he is known as Len Blavatnik.

On May 6, 2011, Warner Music Group announced its sale to Access for US$3.3 billion. On July 20, 2011 an Access affiliate acquired Warner Music Group for $3.3 billion.

Fast and Effective School Fundraisers
Virtually all schools, school groups and sports organizations raise funds to pay for supples and equipment and to supplement other school activities. Most schools hold between one and five fundraisers per year, and one in four schools holds between five and ten fundraisers per year. This activity makes school group fundraisers a common and often constant part of students', staff and parents' lives.
To help combat this overload of “fundraising” it is best to make sure the efforts are as effective as possible. The most income in the shortest possible time. The last result you want is for the donors or customers to think, “oh no not another fundraiser” when asked to buy or donate.
You could buy bottled water, ice and arrange to sell them at school events or outside a local shopping mall (as long as temperatures remain high) for a dollar each. Your cost should be just under 10 cents each giving you about $20.00 profit per case of 24 bottles sold. It needs to be hot enough to have thirsty people. You can also sell the water for less and sell more but at a lower net profit.
Consider using Sunset Coupon Books for a sales tool that works year round no matter what the temperature is. Each sale nets your group a $5.00 dollar profit on each and every book sold. Your donor or customer gets over $400 dollars in savings on local food and entertainment.
At Sunset Coupons we have books that are special for the Phoenix metro area, the east valley (Tempe / Mesa), Tucson AZ and Salt Lake City Utah.
Sunset Coupons will consign books to bonafide established organizations with no up-front costs. Call to see how your group can begin raising money with no out of pocket expense. We can imprint your group or school name and/or logo on the cover for a very personalized sales events.
So for your fast and effective fundraiser this fall take a strong look at the Sunset Coupon Book program for your school group.
At Sunset Coupons we want to help you make your next fundraiser easier and more successful. Give us a call at 602-279-0404 to find out how we can help your group.

Using Tweets as a fundraising basis may seem like a good idea at first but you need to have a larger Twitter following as step one and that takes time.
First and foremost, always keep in mind that the power of Twitter is merely a reflection of the power of community. Twitter is not a fundraising machine; people are.
We all know that asking people for money can be daunting. For this reason, it’s important to build a community of people interested in your content and cause before asking for anything.
When disseminating information, be sure to state your purpose clearly and concisely. Let people know why they should care about your cause, and be specific about how their contributions will benefit others. It seems like common sense, but there are times when we forget to highlight the “why” and “how” when making a statement or releasing a call to action.
Generating hype around your cause and event is imperative, which means it’s important to be singular and set your charity apart from the rest. Catchy taglines or hashtags and unique avatar ribbons are simple features that can be incorporated to brand your initiative.
If you don’t have the luxury of time to raise funds for your group and you need a “right now” solutions Sunset Coupons are a better solution for you at this time.
While there are many ways to raise funds, it is better if you can delivery a quality product “right now” to the potential buyer or donor. Keep in mind that even with a “right now” product not everyone likes pop-corn, chocolate or calendars.
With Sunset Coupons we find that a “free Lunch” is still a very good incentive. Please take time to consider our books for your group local coupons that serve all parts of the transaction.
Your group benefits with matching funds from the sale. Your buyer gets a value of $400.00 plus for just $10. The local merchant benefits by introducing a new customer to their business. A real win, win, win!
Give us a call at Sunset Coupons ( 800-627-6340 ) so we can help your group raise your much needed funds.

What Triggers A Donation?
Donors will often feel an affinity for a cause for a variety reasons related to their life experiences. This is most evident in causes that relate to health. If someone has been diagnosed at some time in his or her life with a serious illness, or one of their close friends or family members has, they are acutely aware of the needs of patients.
Many other causes attract support because of a donors past experience.
People often say they donate or volunteer in order to “make a difference.” This phrase means many different things to many different people.
Some people want to make an impact in the lives of an individual person. They would like to see a lasting and tangible change as the result of their contribution. They may not even be concerned with how long this change takes, just so long as it does take place. Other people want to see an immediate impact, for example food distributed to those who are hungry and other types of emergency aid. Still others have a long term vision for a societal change they want to see take place.
Another element of “making a difference” is simply a grateful spirit that wishes to give back to society.
Many social problems seem too large for any one person to make a difference. Making a donation gives the donor personal power over a complex issue that is much larger than himself. It’s one way that we can feel more in control of our world.
They are motivated by personal recognition and benefits.
While the psychological reasons and desires for each of the following motivations are somewhat different, I’m putting them all in this recognition and benefits category:
Many people like to be publicly acknowledged for their gifts to charity. On the high end of this scale is a building naming rights program. Donor recognition plaques large and small serve to acknowledge gifts. Sometimes just a simple “thank you” is all a person needs. People donate because you give them something tangible in return. If someone doesn’t have a strong interest in the cause they may be more likely to make a donation or other type of support when they get something of value in return. This is where special events and product sales often come in. Other times the “thank you gift” is just that extra push that convinces someone to go ahead and donate.
Donating allows them to associate with a well known person or social set. The traditional black tie gala is one example of instances where socialites may buy a ticket or table just to “see and be seen.” Other times people may make a donation to a cause that a celebrity endorses, as a roundabout way of being associated with someone they admire.
Giving is a good thing to do.
While all of the above reasons and many others may be true, there is no doubt that the majority of people simply believe in the value of giving itself. Some give out of an accepted moral or spiritual obligation. Others subconsciously know that it just feels good to give.

Top Philanthropic Donors: Thomas Denny Sanford
Thomas Denny Sanford born December 23rd 1935 is a South Dakota businessman and philanthropist. He is currently the chairman and CEO of United National Corp.
Sanford made his fortune as the owner of First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard, both among the nation's leading credit card providers. Sanford's net worth is roughly $400 million. He is no longer on the Forbes list of richest people in the world. Until prevented by federal law, the credit cards from banks controlled by Sanford charged $256 in fees per year for a card with a $250 credit limit. In response to the law banning such fees, the bank now issues cards carrying an interest rate of 79.9%, the nation's highest, on a card with a $300 limit.
The Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is named for him.
Sanford has been as generous in his philanthropy as he has been successful in his business ventures. BusinessWeek magazine listed him as one of the top 50 most generous philanthropists in November, 2006.
On Saturday, February 3, 2007, Sanford announced a $400 million gift to Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System, which renamed itself Sanford Health. Sanford's total philanthropic gifts have exceeded $500 million, and are generally geared toward improving the quality of life for children.
T. Denny graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1958 with a degree in psychology. In 2003 Sanford and the University of Minnesota announced that Sanford would donate $35 million towards a proposed new football stadium for the Minnesota Gophers football team; a deal which would have given him full naming rights. However, that deal fell through in late 2003 when the two parties were unable to reach an agreement on terms of the funding. Later in 2005, TCF Bank won the bid to receive naming rights for the new stadium.
On May 21, 2009, the University of Minnesota accepted a $6 million donation to name the athletic hall of fame within TCF Bank Stadium in his honor. This donation was the final amount to close out the $86 million in private fundraising for the stadium.
Let Sunset Coupons help you with your fundraising somewhat smaller fundraising projects for your school group, church, charity, team or non-profit. To finds out more about Sunset Coupons please call 800-627-6340.

Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery
When you read about, hear of or watch good information about a fundraising idea or technique that has worked for other groups, please use that idea. Are you staling someone else’s idea? Please see the title of this article… “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
Some people claim that there is nothing “new” under the sun. That if you look closely you will find every new “Idea” is not new but a recycled version of something that has happened before. So if you can adapt and apply a fundraising idea that you learn of, you should.
Planning is the real “Secret” to raising funds for your group. But, a new way, idea or technique is always a great way to breath new life into this years campaign.
Have you heard the one that goes, “It is better to steal a good idea than to have a bad one of your own.” We might also say that if you are going to steal an idea and use it, make sure it is a good and successful idea rather than a bad and unsuccessful one.
One would hope that all folks that are raising money for their school group, charity or non-profit would appreciate the need for their counterparts to use the good ideas that help them raise money.
All new fundraising ideas have the possibility of being either good ideas or bad ideas and in a perfect world it should be easy to tell the difference. Sad to say that isn’t the way of real life. Not only are ideas, new or old, not perfect and may not raise the amount you need they tend to work different in different areas and when operated by different people.
“Your results may vary” is the key-phrase here. What is the track record of any idea. When it is new you never know. You can look back at an idea and from the “hindsight” place and you can determine how well a fundraising idea or technique is working. Of course, by then it is not a new and fresh idea.
One marketing idea is to always “test” different ideas or strategies when you are looking for one that works the best. When you find a proven idea, use it. Then and only then will you know how it works for your group.
Looking for a great “New Idea” to help your fundraising efforts? Give Sunset Coupons a call at: 800-627-6340 and see how we can help your group raise needed funds.

9/11 Memorial Museum
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is the principal memorial and museum commemorating the September 11 attacks of 2001, and the World Trade Center bombing of 1993.
The memorial is located at the World Trade Center site, on the former location of the Twin Towers destroyed during the attacks. The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation was renamed the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center in 2007.
The winner of the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition was American architect Michael Arad of Handel Architects, a New York and San Francisco based firm. Michael Arad worked with landscape architecture firm Peter Walker and Partners on the design which calls for a forest of trees with two square pools in the center, where the Twin Towers once stood.
In August 2006, the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began heavy construction on the memorial and museum. The design is consistent with the original Daniel Libeskind master plan that called for the memorial to be 30 feet below street level (originally 70 feet) in a piazza. The design was the only finalist to throw out Libeskind's requirement that buildings overhang the footprints.
A memorial was planned in the immediate aftermath of the attacks and destruction of the World Trade Center to remember both the victims and those involved in the rescue attempts. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center is a non-profit corporation with the mission to raise funds for, program, own and operate the memorial and museum at the World Trade Center site. On September 11, 2011, a dedication ceremony was held at the memorial, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the attacks.
The memorial officially opened to the public on September 12, 2011, while the museum was planned to open one year later, on or around September 11, 2012. Three months after opening, the memorial had been seen by over 1 million visitors. In 2012, Tuesday's Children, a non-profit family service organization that has made a commitment to individuals directly impacted by September 11th and to those who have lost loved ones to terrorism around the globe, has partnered with the 9/11 Memorial to offer private tours to family members of 9/11 victims and First Responders.
The 9/11 Memorial and Museum Foundation, which controls the memorial and museum, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the World Trade Center site, say they hope the museum will now open by the end of 2013, although no completion date is actually set.
We at Sunset Coupons, LLC would like to take a moment today to honor those who died in 9/11, their families, and the heroes who helped in rescue and relief. Never forget!

Your Basic Fundraising Steps
The most important consideration in fundraising is to choose the right fundraiser for your school or group. Take your time. Choosing the right fundraiser allows for financial goals to be reached while making parents happy.
Finding the right fundraising company can be intimidating. Talk to other people, talk to several companies and get multiple offers in writing up-front before deciding. Research your options on the Internet, request information, make calls and check with the Better Business Bureau!
If you are looking for a fun and easy fundraising source, please take the time and checkout Sunset Coupon Books at http://sunsetcoupons.com
Not all fundraising products are created equal. Choose only quality products that add value! Don't try to peddle fundraising items that are no quality. Present yourself with pride and respect and your customers will appreciate it.
Don’t stretch yourself too thin with smaller fundraisers with low profit margins. The best way to hit a fundraising goal is to have one main fundraiser and put all your effort behind it. In preparation of this heavy-hitting fundraiser, downplay the fundraisers that won't make a big impact on the group.
When you are ready, make a list of the items you will focus on. Put the items with the most impact efforts at the top of the list. When the time comes to get the fundraiser underway, focus your efforts towards creating fundraising success! Don't let anything distract you from holding one successful fundraiser per semester.
The community will rally around a school if they know the school needs help. They do not have to have children going to the school, they just need to know that their local community needs their help. If there is a way to get the point across that they are needed, they will step up and help. Society is built on giving and support for others, so get out there into the community and let them know you need their help!
Don’t catch your school by surprise and cause a lot of undue stress. Get people excited about the fundraiser months before the actual fundraiser. Let everyone know when the fundraiser takes place, what is expected and when to turn in materials. There is no substitute for getting the word out on the fundraiser! Use morning announcements, email, printed newsletters, signs & banners, reminder notices, etc. to communicate.
If you need to raise funds for your group or non-profit give Sunset Coupons a call at 602-279-0404 for a faster and easier way to do your next fundraiser.

Top Philanthropic Donors: Joseph Neubauer and Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer
For Joseph Neubauer and Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer, the $26.5 million gift in support of the Neubauer Family Collegium for Culture and Society is the latest in a series of efforts to spark creative and collaborative approaches to the highest pursuit of knowledge.
That all starts with investing in people, says Joseph Neubauer, MBA’65 and a trustee of the University.
“The Collegium is an investment in human capital and an investment in what makes this University distinctive,” he says. “It’s really designed to create a natural platform for the University’s scholars to cross disciplinary boundaries to consider the complicated multidimensional problems of everyday life.”
The Collegium is one of the family’s many programs that support UChicago faculty and their groundbreaking research.
In 1994, the family established the Neubauer Family Chair in Entrepreneurship and Finance, the first at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
The Neubauer Family Foundation provided $10 million to support graduate students in the Division of the Humanities as well as in Chicago Booth in 2002.
The Neubauer Family Assistant Professor Fellows program, which was established in 2007, provides five years of research funding and guaranteed leave time for 20 outstanding early-career, tenure-track assistant professors.
The Neubauer Collegium brings Joseph Neubauer and Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer’s total support for the University to more than $65 million.

School Group Fundraising Safety
The safety of our children should always be the number one priority. Many of school fundraisers involve the selling of products to raise funds.
All fundraising activity that involves children should always use the highest level of supervision by both the parents and the school community.
The list of fundraising safety tips will help ensures that your fundraiser is not only profitable, but safe as well.
Always register your fundraiser with your school. Any fundraiser that is run by any group affiliated with the school must have permission from the proper school officials so they are aware of your event.
While it is common for children to do sales door-to-door, times have changed. This is not a safe practice and is not recommended. If you would like to offer school fundraising products to neighbors, parents should be the ones to make the contact.
Parental involvement in fundraising is a must. From phone calls to events, parents will needed to be involved every step of the way. Your children can be part of the process, but direct supervision by the parents is essential.
Never allow children to carry collected money unless accompanied by a responsible adult. Parents should be the ones to handle any funds collected and directly pass this along to the school administrator in charge of the fundraiser. Please keep all collected funds in a secure location and pass along the funds to the school as quickly as possible.
Appropriate communication between the fundraising group and the participants is essential.
It is the fundraising organizer’s responsibility to convey the rules and guidelines of the fundraiser properly. There should be a clear step-by-step guideline of the fundraiser distributed to the parents. Parent letters, emails, phone calls and daily announcements help reinforce the safety guidelines of the fundraiser.
Now is time for you to call ( 800-627-6340 ) Sunset Coupons and see how we can help your School Group.

Do Unrelated Scams Hurt My Fundraising?
With dozens of elementary, middle and high school sports and clubs out and about trying to get cash to support their programs, how can you tell a phony from the real deal?
Scams seem to be popping up everywhere online and over the phone, but the latest scam to hit Anchorage took a more classic approach.
Fundraising for school sports and activities are a long-standing tradition. But recently, a high school-aged scammer posed as a student collecting money door-to-door for a fake West High School football trip to Italy. So how can you make sure your hard-earned dollars are going to the right place?
The Better Business Bureau is warning people to be wary of scam artists pretending to be charities collecting money to help people affected by Tropical Storm Isaac.
With stories like this going around on TV and in Social Media it can truly impact your fundraising efforts.
There are many ways to help differentiate your fundraising group from scammers that are out there praying on others. Always have a sheet, either a letter from the teacher or the principal on letterhead. Students and organizations also should have approval by the principal or endorsement of a booster club to raise money. Be able to show your credentials to your potential donors.
Students and parents out representing their team can be wearing their jerseys, selling things at grocery stores and different venues, those outward signs help show legitimate organizations.
One advantage to Sunset Coupon Books is the ability to do a real “Show and Tell” about what they are getting right now as you sell your groups books (they can include your groups name and logo on the cover). This works even better if you have arranged to sell your books right in front of one of the participating merchants’ locations.
Sunset Coupons is an Accredited Business by the Arizona Better Business Bureau.

Have a Safe and Happy Labor Day
Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, parades and athletic events.
In 1882, Matthew Maguire, a machinist, first proposed the holiday while serving as secretary of the CLU (Central Labor Union) of New York. Others argue that it was first proposed by Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor in May 1882, after witnessing the annual labor festival held in Toronto, Canada.
Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday in 1887. By the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, thirty states officially celebrated Labor Day.filed with Reyes, leader of the labor movement. Fearing further conflict, the United States Congress unanimously voted to approve rush legislation that made Labor Day a national holiday; Cleveland signed it into law a mere six days after the end of the strike. The September date originally chosen by the CLU of New York and observed by many of the nation's trade unions for the past several years was selected rather than the more widespread International Workers' Day because Cleveland was concerned that observance of the latter would be associated with the nascent Communist, Syndicalist and Anarchist movements that, though distinct from one another, had rallied to commemorate the Haymarket Affair in International Workers' Day. All U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the territories have made it a statutory holiday.
The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and spirit of corps of the trade and labor organizations", followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the civil significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.
The holiday is often regarded as a day of rest and parties. Speeches or political demonstrations are more low-key than May 1 Labor Day celebrations in most countries, although events held by labor organizations often feature political themes and appearances by candidates for office, especially in election years. Forms of celebration include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art events. Families with school-age children take it as the last chance to travel before the end of summer recess. Similarly, some teenagers and young adults view it as the last weekend for parties before returning to school, although school starting times now vary.
