When you read about, hear of or watch good information about a fundraising idea or technique that has worked for other groups, please use that idea. Are you staling someone else’s idea? Please see the title of this article… “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
Some people claim that there is nothing “new” under the sun. That if you look closely you will find every new “Idea” is not new but a recycled version of something that has happened before. So if you can adapt and apply a fundraising idea that you learn of, you should.
Planning is the real “Secret” to raising funds for your group. But, a new way, idea or technique is always a great way to breath new life into this years campaign.
Have you heard the one that goes, “It is better to steal a good idea than to have a bad one of your own.” We might also say that if you are going to steal an idea and use it, make sure it is a good and successful idea rather than a bad and unsuccessful one.
One would hope that all folks that are raising money for their school group, charity or non-profit would appreciate the need for their counterparts to use the good ideas that help them raise money.
All new fundraising ideas have the possibility of being either good ideas or bad ideas and in a perfect world it should be easy to tell the difference. Sad to say that isn’t the way of real life. Not only are ideas, new or old, not perfect and may not raise the amount you need they tend to work different in different areas and when operated by different people.
“Your results may vary” is the key-phrase here. What is the track record of any idea. When it is new you never know. You can look back at an idea and from the “hindsight” place and you can determine how well a fundraising idea or technique is working. Of course, by then it is not a new and fresh idea.
One marketing idea is to always “test” different ideas or strategies when you are looking for one that works the best. When you find a proven idea, use it. Then and only then will you know how it works for your group.
