During the summer you can use something as simple as a lemonade stand to raise money for your School, Sports Team, Youth Group, Church or Non-profit. But as the cooler or even colder temperatures get here it means you may have to move indoors to do your fundraising, but where?
They more traffic you have that comes by your “stand” the better off you are. Where is there a lot of indoor traffic? Shopping malls of course. To get space for your booth in a shopping mall you have to contact the mall management for permission.
To find out how to contact the mall management you need to try the white pages or visit the mall itself. Many malls have information booths and they should be able to tell you how to make contact. If there isn’t an information booth you can ask at one of the stores in the mall. A regular clerk may not be able to tell you but the manager should have that information.
If those two ideas don’t work try finding a security guard and give him a brief explanation of what you want to do and ask for directions to the mall management offices. When you know where the office is make a short visit and see who you need to talk to and make an appointment for a meeting.
The person you meet with may already have a list of things you must do to be able to hold a fundraiser or have a booth at the mall. You may also find that the mall has a policy that prohibits any type of fundraiser at all. Don’t be discouraged. Try a different mall.
Be prepared to tell a lot about your organization and what you use the funds for. If would be good if you have photographs of other locations you have been at. If you use the funds for trips that you organization makes have photos of the locations you have visited.
Your group may need to show how being at the mall would be good for the mall as well. Having you there could be a sign of community good will. If you have a large organization your presence could bring traffic to the mall and the stores (tenants) would benefit as well.
The mall may require that your group has insurance that protects the mall against damage or liability issues your group may cause. A local insurance agent can help with a solution to that requirement.
