What is the “Most Important Part Of Fundraising”? Some would argue that getting the money into your charity is the most important part. There can be no argument that the bottom line of fundraising is the donation itself. After all the is the goal of fundraising. The money!
If we can take a moment and step to the side and look at all fundraising we will see one other long term goal. That goal is the reputation of the organization. The better it is, the easier it is to actually raise the money. So is reputation the most important part of fundraising?
If possible take the next few minutes and think about a simple word… Follow-up. Follow-up with each and every person you come in contact with is crucial to fundraising. Is it easier to go to someone you know or a complete stranger for your next fundraiser? Once you meet with someone your follow-up with that person is the cement that will bind your reputation with that one person. If you follow-up with each person you will find more and more friends or at least contacts for the future.
Collect the name and contact information of everyone you meet. Yes, this will never happen anywhere near 100%. But the more you simply ask for that contact information the more often you will get it. The more often you follow-up a donation with a sincere “Thank You” the more often you will get that second or third donation.
Even when you are selling something tangible you can ask if that person would allow you to contact with you next special, offer or request. No you won’t get 100% yeses. But every time you ask you will have the opportunity of a yes.
That is immediate follow-up • Purchase • Thank You • Follow-up • Simple
Are you doing that simple step?
