Don’t Let Fundraising Be a Scary Time

Do you find that the prospect of doing Fundraising is a very scary thought?

Fundraising can be complex, confusing and yes even downright scary… but if you know the secret(s) it needn’t be.  You will find… great fundraising projects don’t just happen, they are always created, staffed and run by a group of hard working volunteers.

Anyone can become a great fundraiser by learning the principles behind raising money, then practicing that art over and over again.  While a very few people are naturally gifted fundraisers, for the most part, everyone in the fundraising world started off feeling confused, awkward and yes, a bit scared.

If your organization’s mission matters, then fundraising isn’t wrong or immoral… it’s downright necessary!  Without the money to carry out your programs and vision, your organization will not be able to succeed in its service to those in need. Not being able to raise those funds is what would be the “wrong”.

Your group, School, Sports Team, Youth Group, Church or Non-profit needs funds to carry out your mission to help others and that is the real story you need to tell.

The most important thing you can do, as someone who is fundraising, is to build deeper relationships between your prospect and the organization you are fundraising on behalf of.  Sure, bringing in a $100 check is nice, but building a strong relationship that results in 100 volunteer hours, $1,000 in donations, and several new contacts, all over three or four years, would be much more valuable.

Remember, before you start a new on-profit or new fundraising activity or campaign, check with the organization you are working with.  Rules on fundraising vary by country, state, and municipality.  Check with the non-profit you are working with before you start.

Selling products as part or all of your fundraising efforts can be very beneficial to your organization.  You are then offering a direct value rather than asking for donations.  Selling products means that you have a stable platform to work from.  Of course we want you to consider using Sunset Coupon Books which allows you to offer $400 dollars in real value (something people very much appreciate) for just a simple $10 dollar purchase.  Your organization gets to keep at least $5.00 for each Sunset Coupon Book that you have sold.

Understand That There Will Be “No’s”: And that’s ok!  Fundraising is like baseball… where even the best batters strike out more often that they get home runs, even the best, most experienced practitioners receive lots of “no’s.”  Don’t let “ NO Sales” get you down or discourage you.  They’re part of the game.

Sunset Coupons has dedicated programs in Phoenix, Tempe / Mesa, Tucson Arizona and Salt Lake City, Utah.
