Show and Deliver

The most traditional way to sell is by going door-to-door.  If that is the way your organization would like to do your fundraising that is a great way to start out. Is there a best time to do your fundraising?

This isn't a tongue-in-cheek answer.  The best time is when people are home.  The type of neighborhood reflects on this as well.  In some neighborhoods you have more stay-at-home Moms.  There you can try mornings, late afternoons or early evenings.  Waking the baby at naptime won't make you any friends.

The more affluent neighborhoods early evening is the best and of course consider weekends as well. Saturday is very much open but you will find that people are out-and-about on weekends so you will find many no-answers as you do your fundraising.  Sundays, mid afternoon is usually the best time to prospect.

When you do get answer make sure your introduction is very brief and you let the potential donor see the Sunset Coupon Book right away.  Stress the many money saving locations that the customer can take advantage of.  Remind them this is a donation for; make sure they hear what group and why you are raising funds. Remind them these coupon books allow them to save hundreds at local restaurants and great fun locations.

The customer is able to select the Sunset Coupons Books that he or she wishes to buy. You then hand over the product and collect the money right then and there.  A quick way to help your group meet your fundraising needs.

Never Prejudge

One of the biggest problems with selling to the general public on location is that young people have a very hard time with the word “No”.  Actually many professional sales people suffer from the same problem.  This can lead to reduced money during your fundraiser.

Your people need to approach EVERY person who comes by your selling location.  The steps are very simple.

1. Smile
2. Make eye contact
3. Say Hello – very warm and friendly
4. This one is optional and depends on how hard you want to sell – block the person’s approach path at about a 45% angle (you need to give them an opening) – hand     them something to read… A brochure that explains why you are raising money for example.
5. Make sure they can see your Sunset Coupons Book you want them to buy.

No matter what, some people you approach are going to say NO. Simple fact of selling – Not everyone buys.

What you have to be careful of, is thinking that if the last three soccer moms say NO, then you might begin to think that all soccer moms will say no and you stop approaching soccer moms altogether.  That is the big mistake.  Prejudging the people you approach.

If your “Nos” come from a group change your approach. Do Not stop approaching any one group.

Many times people will talk over the results of any given day or location and you may here comments like old people never buy or single men never buy.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Everyone likes to save money it is a simple fact.

People from every (demographic) group of people will buy Sunset Coupons to save money and some will even buy just to be nice and help you achieve your fundraising goal.

Never prejudge your potential buyer.  If you don’t approach you will more than likely never make a sale.  Never sit and wait to be approached to make your Sunset Coupons Presentation.  You always need to make the first move.  Make that move, that presentation to everyone who walks buy your location!

Smile
Make eye contact
Say Hello – very warm and friendly
Fundraising success will be your reward

Dressing Up Your Fundraising Location

Once you have permission from your location and all of your people know the location address and what time their individual shift is taking place.

Dress Your Location

The better you look the more money you will raise and the same can be said for your location’s “Look”.

A nice card table with a sign about your organization and the Specific fundraiser you are doing is the bare minimum.  Let the people know if you need funds for new uniforms, equipment, to travel to an event or just to be able to keep operating.  Let them know your need and it will help sell more Sunset Coupon Books and maybe even a separate additional donation.

Beyond simple, on table signage you can use banners on the front of your table, or if the location allows a banner that is above and behind your table.  The bigger (allowable size) the better.  Keep in mind that both the real location and the local regulations may be involved in the type of banner sign that can be used.  Always check out local regulations first.

A simple photo album relating to other events that your group has been in can be a big help to tell your unique fundraising story.  Do you have pictures about where the money is going?  The new uniforms, equipment or your trip will look nice in photos and many times your supplier or vendor will be happy to help you with photos or hand-outs about their location or products.

Awards

Does your group have trophies or awards that can be displayed at your fundraising location?  If so they can also help increase both the passers-by interest as well as how much they feel they can spend or donate to your group.

So dress up your location… The better you look…

Dress Code For Fundraising on Location

Once you have permission from your locations and you understand their rules and guidelines for soliciting while on their property.  These may include the number of people and hours or length of time you can be on their property.  One thing to mention when you agree to the date and time for your promotion, always be, not just on time, but early and make sure to check in with a Manager on duty so they know you are there.

The Dress Code

The better you look the more money you will raise.  Yes, you have to take climate, time of year and current weather into consideration and dress to be out in that type of weather.

Wearing your uniform or dressed how you do when you perform is always a great idea.  If that dress code does not work out the following makes a good impression.  Young men in slacks and a button-down shirt and young ladies in a skirt and blouse, dress or nice slacks will be a good presentation for the public.

It is worth saying again - The better you look the more money you will raise.  Since you are in direct contact with the public you will want to have proper hygiene as well.  Fresh breath is a must. Clean hands and clean fingernails will also make a good impression on the folks who stop and talk with you about your fundraiser using Sunset Coupon Books.

Last but not least, no matter what always follow-up with a very sincere “Thank You” .  You can even invite these folks to see an outing or performance of your group.

Location! Location! Location!

So you have decided on using Sunset Coupons, great idea.  But, your organization has a policy of not letting your youthful members going door to door for the promotion. That is really no problem at all.

You just arrange for sales at your activities.  So the general public that attends can take advantage of the great value of Sunset Coupon Books.  If in some cases only parents attend.  That just means that you are going to have choose a location (or several locations) to sell your Sunset Coupon Books.

Location, Location , Location…

That old saying is full of the most important truth about selling, just about anything.  You want to pick a location with a high traffic count.  You also need to consider the type of traffic.  One type of location that is highly recommended is your local grocery store.  Getting permission works best if you approach a manager or assistant manager who is familiar with you as a good and frequent customer.

Make sure that when the day arrives for you to being presenting the fundraising opportunity of Sunset Coupon Books that you have nice neat set-up.  A nice card table with your organization sign or banner and just two people to man your sales.

Make sure you are proactive with selling.  If you just set there you will have no sales.  Greet your potential buyer with a big smile and let them know you have a great value for them and the proceeds go to your organization.  If you are fundraising for a special event make that part of your sales dialog with each person.

You may find more success with people on the way or on the way out.  That is affected by the type of location and even the time of month.  Make sure your greeting both on the way and the way out is a very big smile and greeting.
