Post Halloween Fundraisers

After tonight’s Halloween celebrations you may want to consider your next school or group’s fundraiser  for the following month of November.

With holiday preparations under way everyone is very busy and has very limited time to spend adding anything else to their plate.  For this reason many groups consider the months of November and December as “Off Limits” for fundraising.

That very timing issue can be great for your group, you have far less competition.  We know that you and the rest of your group are just as starved for free time.  That what will make using Sunset Coupon Books as your fundraising vehicle all the more attractive.

A few phone calls to those in your group and then a group of you selling just a few hours on a weekend or making calls to family and friends can bring in hundreds in a short while.

Sunset Coupon Books contain hundreds of dollars in savings from local merchants. The savings enjoyed from using just one or two coupons will pay for the book. And who doesn’t need to save money this time of year?  In addition to saving money it allows a family to eat out more often freeing up some of Mom’s valuable time.

Sunset Coupon Books are small enough to fit in a pocket or purse yet contain over 40 family-friendly coupons such as 2 for 1 Meals, and Attractions like Bowling, Mini-Golf, Skating, etc; a combined value of over $400 in savings.

Coupon Books sell for only $10 each. You pay $5 for them so you make $5 for yourself for a full 100% profit.

Perhaps most important for your group, there may be no up front cost. Sunset Coupons will consign books to bonafide established organizations. Call to see how your group can begin raising money with no out of pocket expense.

Sunset Coupon Books Are The Perfect Fundraiser for the Phoenix Metro Area, Tempe / Mesa, Tucson and Salt Lake City

Remember that Sunset Coupons has a great Fall Fundraiser with a no cost start-up option.  Give us a call at 800-627-6340 to talk about your next fundraiser.

Fundraising For Natural Disasters Is Good For Your Group

As Tuesday morning breaks we are all thinking about the disaster that is occurring on the eastern seaboard.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of that disaster.

If your group is already organized to raise funds now is an excellent time to shift the focus from your groups needs to those affected by hurricane Sandy.  The funds can go to the Red Cross or other organizations that are and will be helping the millions of people that are directly and indirectly affected by this record setting storm.

The most basic reason to do this type of fundraising is to fill the need that is now a national emergency.

One direct and long term benefit is the recognition your group will get from doing fundraising for this disaster.  As we had said many times having a scrapbook of your group’s activities is always good to have on hand.  It helps people to be able to see what your group does and its needs.  Adding photos of your group helping others on this national scale is just a good idea that can have long term additional benefits.

People will be motivated to make purchases and donations in the future because of the good work you will be doing on behalf of the victims for hurricane Sandy.

Your fundraising for Sandy victims can either be just straight donation requests or they can be sales of Sunset Coupon Books with the proceeds going to the organization of your group’s choice to benefit those affected by this storm.

Your group’s good deeds will always benefit many people and the affects will go far beyond just the dollars raised for the victims of this natural disaster.

The sooner you get started raising funds the better.  For good recognition you could do a enlarged check presentation to the group your group chooses to support and it will look great in your photo album or on display at your groups future fundraisers.

If you are looking for a high value and easy fundraiser call Sunset Coupons at 800-627-6340 and see how we can help your group reach its goals, time after time and year after year.

Fundraising By Age Can Be Very Different

Did you know that a person over sixty is more likely to make a donation or purchase from your group than a person in their early twenties?

Does that mean you should just target the older demographic?  Currently there are more sixty plus people in our society than there are people in their twenties.  So the pool of that generation is both larger and more likely to buy or donate.

But, you must understand that if you are street selling or asking for donations the total you raise is based on the total of people asked or approached.  While more sixty plus may donate or buy you don’t want to let those in their twenties, thirties, forties and fifties just pass by or not be asked for a purchase or donation.

You may be less successful when approaching the younger crowd, you don’t want to ignore them either.  If you get one in four seniors to purchase or donate you may still get one in six or seven of the younger crowd to do the same.

It is true that mailing a donation letter to the younger set will have nearly zero response compared to seniors being one or two percent rate of response.  In person requests work much better for the younger demographic.

While it is understood that as a person gets older they are more likely to make a donation or purchase to help a fundraising group that doesn’t mean you should ignore any of the younger people that you can reach out to or approach.  A younger demographic will respond well if they have children included in the group, such as team and school sports.

Part of what makes Sunset Coupon Books is that there are coupons from entertainment and food vendors that will be interesting to many different demographics.  When approaching different age groups you can show them coupons that would be more relevant to their age group.  This ends up with a greater “yes” rate than not showing coupons to your potential buyers.

Top Philanthropic Donors: Michael R. Bloomberg

Michael Rubens Bloomberg was born February 14, 1942 and is an American businessman and politician who is currently Mayor of New York City. With a net worth of $25 billion in 2012, he is also the 10th-richest person in the United States.

He was frequently mentioned as a possible independent candidate for the 2008 presidential election, which fueled further speculation when he left the Republican Party. There was also speculation that he would run as a vice-presidential candidate. Bloomberg did not, however, seek the presidency nor was he selected as a running mate by any of the presidential candidates.

According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, Bloomberg through his Bloomberg Philanthropies Foundation, donated and/or pledged $240 million in 2005, $60 million in 2006, $47 million in 2007, $150 million in 2009, $332 million in 2010 and $311 million in 2011. 2011 recipients include the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; World Lung Foundation and the World Health Organization. In 2008, Bloomberg's website announced a combined donation of $500 million with Bill Gates to help governments in developing countries with tobacco control.

According to The New York Times, Bloomberg was an "anonymous donor" to the Carnegie Corporation from 2001-2010, with gifts ranging from $5 million to $20 million each year. The Carnegie Corporation distributed these contributions to hundreds of New York City organizations, ranging from the Dance Theatre of Harlem to Gilda's Club, a non-profit organization that provides support to people and families living with cancer. He continues to support the arts through his foundation.

In 1996, Bloomberg endowed the William Henry Bloomberg Professorship at Harvard with a $3 million gift in honor of his father, who died in 1963, saying, "throughout his life, he recognized the importance of reaching out to the nonprofit sector to help better the welfare of the entire community."

Bloomberg reports giving $254 million in 2009 to almost 1,400 nonprofit organizations, saying, "I am a big believer in giving it all away and have always said that the best financial planning ends with bouncing the check to the undertaker."

On July 21, 2011, Bloomberg announced that he would donate $50 million to Sierra Club's “Beyond Coal” campaign, the grassroots organization’s efforts to close older coal plants and prevent new ones from being built. The gift, spread out over four years, will come from Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Also in July 2011, Bloomberg launched a $24 million initiative to fund “Innovation Delivery Teams” in five cities. The teams are one of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ key goals: advancing government innovation.

In December 2011, Bloomberg Philanthropies launched a partnership with online ticket search engine SeatGeek to connect artists with new audiences. Called the Discover New York Arts Project, the project includes organizations HERE, New York Theatre Workshop, and the Kaufman Center.

Always Collect Names and Email Addresses

You have decided to use Sunset Coupon Books as your school or sports team fundraiser.  You have picked out the local mall or center to hold your Sunset Coupon Book sales.  You have gotten together the display items, table, photo album and your groups banner.  That is everything, right?

Well, did you forget the clipboard that you are going to use to collect the names and email addresses of those folks who purchase your Sunset Coupon Books and make donations?

What, you say you don’t collect the names and emails addresses of the people who take the time to stop and talk with you and either make a donation or make a purchase.  The people who stop and talk with you and make a purchase are interested in your group and what you are doing.

You should always ask if they would like to sign up so they can get your group’s enewsletter.  After all it contains the times and places where you group will play or perform, right?

Now some of you reading this are going to say you don’t have a newsletter.  They are too hard to do or too expensive or one of a hundred more excuses for not doing one.  Keep in mind that other youth sports teams and school groups are using newsletter to communicate with their members and supporters.  They are getting more attendance and more donations and purchases, just by letting interested people know the who, what, where, when and why of their group.

At Sunset Coupon Books we want you to have every edge you need to help your group raise the needed funds.  If you are familiar with how we can help your group visit our website at: http://sunsetcoupons.com

Fundraising Changes Lives

Contributing to children, the arts, politics, or any particular foundation, by offering your resources, however large or small, is a very powerful tool that can change lives. What’s more? You don’t have to be a Rockefeller to make an impact. Every amount that you raise for an organization is a benefit to them.

School Fundraising Makes A positive Impact on children’s lives.

More than just a fundraising company, we help change lives.  Sunset Coupon Books has more than 20 years of helping schools and organizations earn needed funds to help with many types of school and sports programs, we have never lost our primary focus: helping kids. The people we serve are making a real difference every day. We customize our successful fundraising programs and provide exceptional customer service.

When children have positive outlets for their time and energy they do better in school.  It can be said that with improved school performance they then do better in life.

But for most just the thought of fundraising starts the groaning - "oh no not again." Fundraising with a social conscience on the other hand teaches about the story of our community. These are lessons that have been forgotten for such a long time, but need to be learned from an early age. The best thing about fundraising with Sunset Coupon Books is that they are all local.

They are locally produced.
They feature local businesses.
They help fund local programs.
They help our children’s schools and groups.

Helping raise funds for your group and just that action alone may have the most positive change on… your life.

Fundraising the Quick & Easy Way with Sunset Coupon Books! Give us a call at 800-627-6340, we are always happy to help you with your next fundraiser!

Raising Funds Effectively

Over the weekend I had the chance to watch a Cub Scout troop selling, or should I say trying to sell bags of popcorn outside of a local WalMart store.

First I must say that I don’t expect eight and nine year old to be professional salespeople.  But a simple and short training course would turn their efforts in a successful outing.

They had a central table set-up in the alcove of the store’s exterior and each entrance had two more scouts that were actually making the sales efforts.  As a person approached, the Scout would ask (at least most of the time) “wanna buy (some) popcorn?”

We have said it many times before, never, let me repeat that, NEVER ask a sales question that can be answered by “No!”  The cure is simple give each Scout two bags of popcorn and let them know that what they say, with a great big smile is “Do you want to buy one or two bags of our great tasting fresh popcorn?”  They could add “It is just $3.50 a bag!”

Simple and to the point and it would at least double, if not triple the sales.  With the sales being more successful you would have Scouts that would enjoy what they are doing and learning a great lesson about selling and life.

Another big error in this sale situation was when a person indicated they wanted to buy, the Scout directed the person to go to the table to make the purchase.  Not take them by the hand and lead them over, but just tell them that they had to go to the table to buy.  The best would have been to do the transaction them and there at the entrance.  Yes, that would have meant an adult by each entrance to help and increase safety.  But it seemed that even if the person said they would buy the extra effort to walk to the table 80 feet away caused at least half to just continue into the store with a promise to buy when they came out.  You can guess how well that promise was kept.

Of course we would want your group to sell the great Sunset Coupon Books, but at least we want you to know that there is a better way to sell and increase your success rate no matter what your are selling.

Top Philanthropic Donors: Terrence and Kim Pegula

Terrence M. "Terry" Pegula was born March 27, 1951 and is an American businessman. Pegula founded East Resources, a natural gas drilling company, before selling the Pennsylvania, New York, and Rocky Mountain assets of the company to Royal Dutch Shell for approximately $4.7 billion. East Resources, Inc. continues to hold oil & gas assets in West Virginia.

Since his cashout, he has been known for his contributions to higher education athletics; having donated $102 million for the construction of the Pegula Ice Arena on the campus of Penn State University and $12 million for the construction of the Kerr-Pegula Sports Complex at Houghton College located in Western New York. On February 18, 2011, he bought the NHL's Buffalo Sabres (along with the Buffalo Bandits indoor Lacrosse franchise) from previous owners Tom Golisano, Larry Quinn, and Dan DiPofi for $189 million.

Pegula's purchase made an immediate positive impact, with players, fans and alumni invigorated by his investment in the team. Pegula was quoted as saying, "Starting today, the Buffalo Sabres reason for existence, will be to win a Stanley Cup." In May 2011, Pegula began negotiations on behalf of the Sabres to repurchase the Rochester Americans, which had served as the Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate from 1979 to 2008 (and had been owned by the Sabres from 1979 to 1996); the deal was completed in late June 2011. Pegula also owns a share of Black River Music Group, an independent country music label that includes among its artists Craig Morgan and Sarah Darling. In 2012 he won a bid for the development rights to the Webster Block on Buffalo's waterfront, which according to Pegula's plans will include hotel and parking space in addition to an 1,800-seat ice arena.

The Pegulas pledged $88 million to Pennsylvania State University, in State College, to build a new athletics arena, to support the university’s men’s and women’s hockey programs, and to provide scholarships to hockey players who attend the university. Mr. Pegula, 59, earned a bachelor’s degree in petroleum and natural-gas engineering from the university in 1973. Although he did not play hockey when he attended Penn State, Mr. Pegula and his wife are lifelong hockey fans, and he and his family often attend the university’s games, said Joe Battista, the university’s associate athletic director for ice-arena operations.

A New Twist For Your Fundraising Event

You have all been involved in fundraising in one way or another. Whether you were asked to buy a fundraising product or helped to sell one, a fundraiser is a necessity for your local school group, charity, non-profit, church, sports team, cheerleading or association that seems to be here to stay.

A common problem that many who are involved in raising money face is making a decision on what type of product or service should be offered to make money. What items will be easy to sell?

Of course, here at Sunset Coupons we feel that there is no better fundraising products than the Sunset Coupon Books.  If you aren’t familiar with them you can visit our website at, http://sunsetcoupons.com to get complete details.

You want to make sure that the products you sell to be a good value for your buyer / donor.  They should also draw their interest.  You may want to consider products that are a good environmental value and be healthy for the user.

If your organization is doing a fundraising raffle you might want to consider a new twist on that idea.  You get donations from vendors and friends that are of similar value and then the bids for the items go to a set minimum value and then the winning bidders get to pick the prize of their choice.  The process takes a bit of getting use to, but it allows winning bidders to take their choice of the prize they want and win.

You can also apply the “pick your prize” to a raffle format.  In this way the winners get to pick the prize of choice.  You can hold a random drawing to choose which raffle winner get to choose first.

Supporting the causes and organizations close to our hearts helps to build better communities. We passionately believe that fundraising should bring people together, and most importantly - Be Fun and Successful!

If you are looking for a much faster and easy way to build up local offline cash flow please take a look at the help you can get from Sunset Coupon Books.  They offer 100% match of dollars to your organizations efforts.  Give us a call and find out more. 800-627-6340

Serving The Common Good

While many fundraisers are very simple and may be to help your team buy new t-shirts or basic sports equipment they still are to help children participate in an organization that hopes sports will not only be a form of healthy exercise but will teach them ways to be better citizens and better people.

Each and every fundraiser should be and is an advancement to the common good.

Creating greater value for charitable gifts is one of the largest problem most fundraisers face. One of the best ways to overcome it is to tie the donation or purchase to something of value. In doing so, the equation becomes more about the desired object of value than the decision for the donation.

That’s why special events and product promotions work so well. It takes the mind of the buyer off the costs and provides an emotional reason to make a purchase or donation decision.

We are especially excited about helping schools with fundraisers because we want to provide schools money to replace earnings from candy and soda vending machines and reduce childhood obesity. Without the vending machines, the kids and teachers at the school will be healthier, and the schools will still have fundraiser earnings from us to keep programs funded.

We would like you to consider the special value of Sunset Coupon Books.

Sunset Coupon Books contain hundreds of dollars in savings from local merchants. The savings enjoyed from using just one or two coupons will pay for the book. And who doesn’t need to save money these days?

Sunset Coupon Books are small enough to fit in a pocket or purse yet contain over 40 family-friendly coupons such as 2 for 1 Meals, and Attractions like Bowling, Mini-Golf, Skating, etc; a combined value of over $400 in savings.

Coupon Books sell for only $10 each. You pay $5 for them so you make $5 for yourself for a full 100% profit.

Local coupon book editions are available in Phoenix, Tempe / Mesa, Tucson and Salt Lake City.

Multichannel Donations Increase Total Funds

It may seem like a “nobrainer” that giving people more ways to donate will result in more sales and donations, hence more money in total donations.

When you set up to sell your Sunset Coupon Books at outside your local store you want to make sure that all of the ways a person can buy and donate are represented.

You want to make sure that not only is every person who walks by offered a chance to purchase your Sunset Coupon Books but that they can donate money in your donation jar.  If you have an online donation or purchase channel that not only do you have a sign that lists your website, but, that each person is offered a handout with information about your group and their mission but that it contains the online information.  Upcoming events should be part of your display and handouts as well.

If a person walks by without a purchase or donation they are not saying “No” to your organization or cause, they are saying “Not Now”.  You need to make sure that when the time is right for each individual person that your group is still “top of mind” and the person has the information or access to the information that makes a purchase or donation possible.

If your group has a newsletter, online or mail-out, you can use it to reach a larger (and hopefully, ever growing) number of donors by collecting as many names as possible.  Make sure that at every event or sales location you have a sign-up sheet for your newsletter.  More importantly you want to make sure that people who make purchases, donations and those who don’t are given the opportunity to sign up for that newsletter.

You can have one person who has the clipboard with the sign up sheet and actively offers it to the people who pass your booth.  Make sure you have at least two clipboards with sign-up sheets so that people don’t have to wait to do a newsletter sign-up.

When doing in person fundraising it is helpful if you can relate your efforts to current news events and topics that in the forefront of your buyers or donors minds.  You can and should use posters to convey this information to those attending your event or location.

Top Philanthropic Donors: Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born May 14, 1984 and is an American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur. He is best known as one of five co-founders of the social networking site Facebook. Zuckerberg is the chairman and chief executive of Facebook, Inc.

Born and raised in New York state, he took up writing software programs as a hobby in middle school, beginning with BASIC, with help from his father and a tutor (who called him a "prodigy"). In high school, he excelled in classic literature and fencing while studying at Phillips Exeter Academy.

He later attended Harvard University, majoring in computer science and psychology. In his sophomore year, he wrote a program called Facemash as a "fun" project, letting students on the college's network vote on other students' photo attractiveness. It would become a template for his writing Facebook, a program he launched from his dormitory room. With the help of friends, he took Facebook to other campuses nationwide and soon after moved to Palo Alto, California. By 2007, Zuckerberg was a billionaire at the age of 23.

At a party put on by his fraternity, Zuckerberg met Priscilla Chan, a fellow student who he began dating in 2003. In September 2010, Zuckerberg invited Chan, by then a medical student at the University of California, San Francisco, to move into his rented Palo Alto house.  On May 19, 2012, Zuckerberg and Chan married in Zuckerberg's backyard in a celebration also marking her graduation from medical school.

On Zuckerberg's Facebook page, he listed his personal interests as "openness, making things that help people connect and share what's important to them, revolutions, information flow, minimalism". Zuckerberg sees blue best because of red–green colorblindness; blue is also Facebook's dominant color.

Zuckerberg donated an undisclosed amount to Diaspora, an open-source personal web server that implements a distributed social networking service. He called it a "cool idea".

Zuckerberg founded the Start-up: Education foundation.  On September 22, 2010, it was reported that Zuckerberg had arranged to donate $100 million to Newark Public Schools, the public school system of Newark, New Jersey. Critics noted the timing of the donation as being close to the release of The Social Network, which painted a somewhat negative portrait of Zuckerberg. Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker stated that he and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had to convince Zuckerberg's team not to make the donation anonymously.

On December 9, 2010, Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and investor Warren Buffett signed a promise they called the "Giving Pledge", in which they promised to donate to charity at least half of their wealth over the course of time, and invited others among the wealthy to donate 50% or more of their wealth to charity.

Is Positive Attitude The True Bottom Line

We've all heard enough about positive attitude. If you agree, you can skip reading this blog, but at your own risk. Keep in mind that, according to a Stanford Research Institute study success is 88 percent attitude and 12 percent education. The results should be no surprise to anyone. Maintaining a positive attitude is an important factor in your ability to succeed in life and stay sane through tough times. This topic is of great importance to anyone that is part of fundraising.

When you are doing fundraising you need to ask, "What's is our most urgent need?" Most will answer "To raise more money, so we can help more people." You need to learn and then teach the skills and solutions to the problems, help increase their sales, help their people to accept and adapt to change, and teach them how to apply creative thinking for business solutions. They also need to address the importance of providing service excellence and establishing customer loyalty. But most important, they say, is to help their people to maintain a positive attitude through this tough economy.

If you're a fundraising professional or even a part time volunteer, consider this: a national survey examined why salespeople fail. You would think it would most often be because of high prices or poor quality. But 15 percent of the respondents attributed failure to "poor training," another 15 percent said "poor management" and another 20 percent said "poor communication skills." A full 50 percent, however, said that salespeople fail because of "lack of positive attitude."

If you are in sales, and make no mistake about it, fundraising is salesmanship, you must recognize that your donors, potential donors or buyers need to hear a positive attitude and confidence behind the words you say. If they don't, you'll have a difficult time convincing them to buy your items or make donations.

Positive attitude is not only about choosing to have a good outlook through good times and bad, but also about learning to love what you do. It has been observed that outstanding business people are successful because they deeply love their work. The Achievers of this world know that if you can learn to love and be grateful for your job, you'll be more productive, more creative, and more content.

Think of most successful people you know, and you may agree that most are passionate about what they do, are rarely affected by negativity, and tend to enjoy their work. I know for certain that the better your attitude the better your work and your life will be for you.

Positivity Helps Produce Greater Results

Dictionary.com defines positivity as the state or character of being positive.

In psychology and cognitive science, the positivity effect is the tendency of people, when evaluating the causes of the behaviors of a person they like or prefer, to attribute the person's inherent disposition as the cause of their positive behaviors and the situations surrounding them as the cause of their negative behaviors. The positivity effect is the inverse of the negativity effect, which is found when people evaluate the causes of the behaviors of a person they dislike. Both effects are attributional biases.

Both older and younger adults process emotional data over neural data. However, age-related valence reversal in processing emotional data is often observed.

Positive thinking motivation techniques help show sales people how to see the possibilities in every situation and gain the rewards that others miss.

Without motivation and a positive outlook you will never be able to use your sales or management skills to their full potential. Motivation is the key to success in any sales or management role. It is the driving force and the power behind your actions.

People respond to motivated people whether they are prospects or colleagues. With positive thinking you will get positive responses from others.

In sales and sales management there are decisions made that are outside of our control. In our own fundraising groups our superiors, colleagues, and subordinates can all do things that we see as working against us. Buyers and donors make decisions that don’t appear logical and buy from or donate to other causes. Donation appointments get cancelled, and buyers hesitates when we know that it is a simple small decision.

Always stay positive when asking for donations and when selling your fundraising products and you will have more positive results.

If you are looking for a high value fundraiser call Sunset Coupons at 800-627-6340 and see how we can help your group reach its goal.

How Does Your Mindset Affect Your Fundraising?

Your mindset is directly related to whether your fundraising efforts are successful.  That may seem like an overly simplified statement.  But, you will find it is spot on.  You mindset will show both in your voice and your posture.  That will affect how you relate to potential donors and how they relate to you.

This goes well beyond just having a positive attitude.  While a smile on your face will help you in gree1ting people and making that important first impression.  A smile in your heart will make your presentation a better experience both you and your donor.

Have you ever noticed a trend in the thinking patterns of successful people? Have you ever wondered why it seems like success comes so easily to some people and so difficult for others?

It all has to do with your beliefs and self-talk.

People that achieve success on a consistent basis have one thing in common. Whether they are successful athletes, executives, business owners, or artists, they all know that they will succeed. They know this before they even attempt to achieve the goal they set out for themselves. They envision themselves living the way they want to live and feeling the excitement, gratitude, and the sense of accomplishment that comes from reaching what they set out to do.

Positive self-talk is the dialogue that goes on in your mind. It is where you believe in yourself and your mission and are confident in your capabilities to the point that you are certain that you will succeed.
When you believe in your fundraising mission and believe in your ability to get that donation or make that sale then you will have more success when you ask for the donation or present the item your group is selling.  Your belief in yourself leads to more donations and more sales.

When you realize the enormous power that thoughts have over your actions and view of life, you should make a decision to stop living your life with self-imposed limitations. Once you opt for a life filled with opportunities, potential, and fulfillment, you take the most important step to creating the reality you desire.

Choose to look for good things to focus your thinking on. Focus your attention on positive, uplifting, and encouraging words to say to yourself. For example: “Dealing with this client will make me a more patient person.” Choose to look for the silver lining.

Top Philanthropic Donors: George Soros

George Soros was born August 12, 1930, as Schwartz György) and is a Hungarian-American business magnate, investor, philosopher and philanthropist. He is the chairman of Soros Fund Management. Soros supports progressive-liberal causes. He is known as "The Man Who Broke the Bank of England" because of his US$1 billion in investment profits during the 1992 Black Wednesday UK currency crisis.

In 1956 Soros moved to New York City working as an arbitrage trader for F. M. Mayer (1956–59) and as an analyst for Wertheim & Co. (1959–63). During this period, Soros developed the theory of reflexivity based on the ideas of Karl Popper. Reflexivity posited that the valuation of any market produces a procyclical "virtuous or vicious" circle that further affects the market.

Soros' experience from 1963 to 1973 as a vice-president at Arnhold and S. Bleichroderl resulted in little enthusiasm for the job and a desire to assert himself as an investor to make reflexivity profitable. In 1967, First Eagle Funds created an opportunity for Soros to run an offshore investment fund as well as the Double Eagle hedge fund in 1969. In 1973, due to regulatory restrictions limiting his ability to run the funds, Soros resigned from his First Eagle funds.

Between 1979 and 2011, Soros gave away over $8 billion to human rights, public health, and education causes. He played a significant role in the peaceful transition from communism to capitalism in Hungary (1984–89), and provided Europe's largest higher education endowment to Central European University in Budapest. Soros is also the chairman of the Open Society Institute.

Soros' philanthropic funding includes efforts to promote non-violent democratization in the post-Soviet states. These efforts, mostly in Central and Eastern Europe, occur primarily through the Open Society Institute (OSI) and national Soros Foundations, which sometimes go under other names (such as the Stefan Batory Foundation in Poland). As of 2003, PBS estimated that he had given away a total of $4 billion. The OSI says it has spent about $500 million annually in recent years.

In 2003, former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker wrote in the foreword of Soros' book The Alchemy of Finance: George Soros has made his mark as an enormously successful speculator, wise enough to largely withdraw when still way ahead of the game. The bulk of his enormous winnings is now devoted to encouraging transitional and emerging nations to become "open societies", open not only in the sense of freedom of commerce but – more important – tolerant of new ideas and different modes of thinking and behavior.

Time magazine in 2007 cited two specific projects – $100 million toward Internet infrastructure for regional Russian universities, and $50 million for the Millennium Promise to eradicate extreme poverty in Africa – while noting that Soros had given $742 million to projects in the U.S., and given away a total of more than $7 billion.

Testing, A Necessary Part of Fundraising

When it comes to marketing any good marketer knows that rather than rely on a “gut instinct” they need to test their marketing ideas.  They take several different ideas and run a small test for each and see what the results are.

After the testing they chose the method with the best results and that is the final idea or marketing style that they run with.

Are you testing to see which fundraiser brings in the most money or has the best results? If not, why not?

What should you test?  Well we can start with the price and value.  When you sell a candy bar for a dollar you make 0.50 cents per bar.  What would happen if you raise the price to $2.00 each.  You would make $1.50 per bar.  But at the end of the day how many would you sell? If you sell only half as many you would still make more money.  Would that idea work?  The answer is very simple, do a test and find out how well it would work.

Price and perceived value are the very important aspect of fundraising when your method is selling a product to raise those needed funds.

At Sunset Coupons the idea is fully tested with many years of results.  We offer a four hundred dollar value for your donor or buyer for just $10 dollars and your organization or group keeps $5.00 for each and every sale.

In addition because the value is a local value it is very easy for your potential customer to see how they can use and benefit from helping your group, school, church, charity or non-profit organization.

Sunset Coupon Books become a very easy to sell and a Win-Win-Win proposition.  Your group benefits, your customer benefits from more than $400.00 in savings and the local merchants get to introduce their products, services and entertainment to new customers.

Looking for a great and fully tested “New Idea” to help your fundraising efforts?  Give Sunset Coupons a call at: 800-627-6340 and see how we can help your group raise needed funds.

Fundraising Is Selling… Never Stop Closing

Never Stop Selling as you drive your Fundraiser and your people.  Yes, that is a little different from the title and there is a subtle difference between the two.

But, Never Stop Selling

That is the part where you explain the benefits of your product to someone.  In the case of this fundraiser it is Sunset Coupon Books as the product.  They are a better product.  Be ready to explain why.  The following are the key points.

They Cost Less than the national books, just $10 dollars
They are better because they offer many 50% off, Two for Ones – Not 10-20%
All the coupons feature local merchants only!

That is the selling part – We are Better Because !!!

Closing is the important part.

What makes closing a different part of selling?  This is the pay-off part of selling.  When you ask for the order.  When you ask the customer to actually buy the product.  Once you sell during your fundraiser you need to take the next step.  You need to ask for the order.

It can be something simple, “Did you want one or two of our Coupon Books?”  This close is a simple question that can not be answered by a simple no.  The closing question is “Do you want to buy one or two of our products.”  Not, do you want to buy?

Use Trial Closes First – Wait For The Answer!

Before getting to the end of selling you can do a trial close.  Ask the customer, “We are just $10 Dollars, that is much better that the forty dollar books?” Wait for the answer and when it is. “Yes” you have already got an agreement from your customer.  When you get to the close the customer has already agreed once or twice.

You can even make a suggested purchase.  Try… Most people have been buying at least three… They make great gifts!

Even when a potential customer does say no, you can thank them and follow-up with… Would you consider just a small donation?  It could be a dollar or maybe five.

You've read this article, now take the next step. Call 1-800-627-6340 for free advice and Sunset Coupons fundraising ideas.

The key to fundraising is taking action and always making an effort to move forward.
