Charity Fundraising Affected By Politicos

During presidential election years charity fundraising is often affected in a negative way.  The quick judgment is that with all the large and small donations going to the various fundraising done by the politicians there is little left for traditional group and charity fundraisers.

In some cases fundraisers often expect that donations and sales will be down for the later part of presidential election years.  It is an expected change and the charity fundraisers actually plans for donations to be down.  Expected or planned for outlooks turn into real life results.  These self-fulfilling prophecies are the result of the sub-conscious expectations.

We all know that people who think they are going to be sick are more likely to fulfill that expectation and the same thing happens when a business owner expects sales to be bad.  The business owner does things that cause his expectations to be realized.

Don’t let sub-conscious expectations affect your fall fundraising plans.  Let them affect the other guys fundraising plans.  Let others cut back or not plan fundraisers thinking the outcome will be disappointing.

Businesses that increase advertising rather than cut back promotions actually do better when times are tough. More importantly they do even better as the economy picks back.

Much of the time survival and growth are a matter of how we think about things. I heard a story one time of two shoe salesmen that went to a foreign country. When the first guy got off the plane and walked around he noticed that nobody wore shoes. He promptly called the home office and said “This is a terrible idea. There is no opportunity here because nobody wears shoes!” The second salesman got off the plane and as he walked around he noticed the same thing, nobody wore shoe. He promptly called back to his home office and excitedly reported that this was a great idea and there was opportunity everywhere because nobody wore shoes.

Some people say “think positive” and that is correct, but that is not all. We have to think “right” and then go and do something about it. Take action…work.  We could say faith, belief, and right thinking, but without action, effort, and work it is of no avail, no use, and worthless.
