Make Your Group A Cause Celeb

First what is a Cause Celeb?  A cause célèbre is an issue or incident arousing widespread interest, outside campaigning and heated public debate. The term was particularly used in connection with celebrated legal cases. It is a French phrase in common English use, but is hardly used in modern French. In today's arena of media attention and Social media it has come to be related to any news item that quickly gains attention online or in the popular media. Webster’s Dictionary has the definition is; a notorious person, thing, incident, or episode.  The phrase originated with the 37-volume compilation of famous legal cases, Nouvelles Causes Célèbres, published in 1763.

Your group and their cause needs to be part of the awareness of you community.  That community can be a large metropolitan area or as small as your church or school.

The formula for your group's cause celeb should be that "good deeds + celebrity" (think popularity) will equal an improved rate of sales or donations that your group can use to achieve your goals.

Keep in mind that your group will never be known beyond their own best boast.  If you don’t think highly of what your group is doing neither will anyone else.  Everyone from student athletes to a local news person can become the spokesperson for your Cause Celeb.  You not only want to march to the beat of a different drum you want to beat your drum loudly!

Whenever possible you want to tie what your are doing or raising funds for to a news event, holiday or local hot topic.  It can be an anniversary of your group, city or state.  Nearly everyday can be related to an event that is famous or even notorious.

Here is a website that list many holidays. http://holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/index.htm

The other thing you could do is, if you’re interested in seeing what celebrities care about and are concerned about, remember that there is a pretty large and impressive group of well-known people and you can often make a donation to their causes. The third element of it is you could become a celebrity for your own cause and create what we call a badge, which is a little kind of card that adds you or a picture of you and links to organizations that you’re supporting, and you could talk about why it means something to you.

No matter what you use to promote, group or event, remember to tell a good story.  Stories have long been used to pass down history, combat boredom and teach important lessons. Kids can easily become enchanted with the characters and plot of a well-told story. Learning how to tell a good story can help you reinforce lessons and encourage active listening skills. When storytellers tap into their creativity, stories achieve new life with each retelling. Engaging in the art of storytelling can be a pleasant escape for both you and your listeners.
