Success Is In The Question

The fact is, people don’t just “donate” to your cause, they need to be “sold” on your cause. Don’t be shy about “merchandising you’re your group’s goal.”

It seems like nearly 100% of the time that I walk toward a store that has a fundraising group outside the “question” is always Do you want to buy… or would you like to donate to….

The problem with that question is that it can always be answered with a simple and quick “No!”  With little information to make a buying decision your customer will simply say no.

Ask yourself is that what your group does when on location and trying to raise funds?

Be positive when approaching a potential donor.  Here is an example of an approach.

With a big smile say, “We have these great Coupon Books with more than $400 in savings at local merchants for just $10.  Would you like one or two?  That is being both Informative and Positive.

If you aren’t selling Sunset Coupon Books you can substitute any product into that statement and it will work much better than asking “Do you want to buy…”

If possible take it a step farther and give them a reason that you need to make the sale.

With a big smile say, “We have these great Coupon Books with more than $400 in savings at local merchants for just $10.  We are using the money to buy new uniforms. Would you like one or two?

Do you want to be even bolder?  With a big smile say, “We have these great Coupon Books with more than $400 in savings at local merchants for only $10.  We are using the money to buy new uniforms.  The Coupons are very popular, most people are buying at least two coupon books.

Your fundraising success is in how you make your sales approach.  Inform your customer of your group’s need and then sell them on what you are selling.  Never ask a yes or no question.  At least 50% of the time you won’t like their answer.
